Play some Skynyrd, man...For generations to come!
In the Yesyears documentary from 1991, Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman remarked that he wouldn’t be surprised if Yes continued to exist even long after all the current members were dead and buried. While it’s too early to speculate if that will come to pass, even with the many personnel changes Yes continues to have, I can think of one band where that may actually happen: Lynyrd Skynyrd....

Doctor Donna
Last night, I finally watched the 4th season finale of Doctor Who. And boy, am I pissed about what they did to Donna.
Left 4 Dead
Yesterday, my copy of Left 4 Dead arrived in the mail. And since my buddy saturn_girl happened to own it as well, I thought, why not invite her for a little zombie-killing action with me? After getting the headset microphone working (Which neither of us had used before), we fired up the “No Mercy” campaign and teamed up. We really kicked ass right up until the final level, when we got...
2008 Razzie Nominees
The nominees for the 2008 Razzie Awards have been announced. As per my annual tradition, I’m gonna list the nominees and give my predictions. Worst Picture -Disaster Movie & Meet the Spartans -The Hottie and the Nottie -The Happening -In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale -The Love Guru The Hottie and the Nottie was practically tailor-made for this award, so that’s my pick....
This new era has been brought to you by Paul Blart
And a new era begins...
It’s official! Barack Obama is President of the United States! I watched the inauguration ceremony on CNN. I felt good watching this historical event unfold on TV. Of course, there were a few hitches. Obama flubbed the oath. I also had reservations on Rick Warren giving the invocation, since he supported Proposition 8. Still, I guess it’s good I have a few small things to criticize...

Back To the Past
Last night, I dreamed I ended up 50 years in the future. I wanted nothing more than to find a way back home. The reason was because I was thinking off all the people that were dear to me back home and never seeing them again. That’s one major thing about time travel that I didn’t like. The possibility that you could be stranded and never seeing them again.
Talkin' 'bout my Degeneration
Today, we had a snowfall, a cold front and a heater that decided to malfunction. Thankfully, the problem has been fixed and the place is starting to heat up. Last night, I watched the animated Resident Evil: Degeneration movie. It was nice to see zombies back in the RE universe and good to see Claire Redfield (Voiced by Alyson Court, who also played her in RE2 and Code: Veronica) and Leon Kennedy...
Fake out!
When I first heard about that Marcus Schrenker guy faking his own death, my first reaction was, “This guy’s watched too many movies.” Really, that’s the sort of thing that can only work in the movies. Faking your own death is nearly impossible in real life. Everything’s electronically tracked and there’s so much documentation. Did this guy really think he could...
Clowning around
Last night, I dreamed I was a circus clown. I woke up briefly and had another dream. A girl and her pet pig were traveling to California to be X-Men, but ended up being circus clown instead. What was up with my dreams last night? Two circus clown dreams in a row?
These suits were made for ass kicking
I watched Iron Man for the fist time last night. After hearing a billion awesome things about it, I was wondering if it would live up to the hype. It did! The other night, we measured Mercy’s feet. The reason? We’re getting her some boots. Now before you start thinking we’re one of those tacky families who dress their dogs up in sweaters and other clothing to the obvious...
The first what?
Stan Lee plans to unveil the first gay superhero. So, Midnighter, Northstar, Wiccan, Hulking, Karolina Dean, Thunder, The Question (Rene Montoya version), Batwoman, Obsidian and Apollo don’t count?
This is what it sounds like when cicadas cry
Tonight, I finished watching the last volume of When They Cry. I can say, without a doubt, that it’s probably the most disturbing, fucked-up anime I’ve ever seen. And I loved it!
Dream On
I had this dream last night. From what I can remember at this point, it was taking place in some school dormitory. On the top floor resided a bunch of people in prep school uniforms led by some Joker-like demented clown. The floor below that was this enormous room that resembled an 18th century seaside landscape with a ship docked by the bay and people dressed as pirates and Baseball Furies. Below...
Gonna take you back to the past...
Since I’m still without a 360 and had been feeling gaming withdrawl, I decided to pop in Resident Evil 3 for old time’ s sake. I played this game a lot on my Playstation ten years ago. My first impressions? I had forgotten just how hokey the writing and dialogue was. My second impression just how crappy the game looks now. A ten year old PS1 game on a PS3 and an HD-TV? Not a pretty...
The Texas BD Massacre
Today, I popped a couple Blu-Ray’s into my PS3. The first was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I first saw this movie ten years ago. It was one of the few movies I rented that I watched twice before returning it to the video store. I eventually bought it on DVD and now on Blu-Ray. It’s still just as creepy and effective as it was when I first saw it. I remember watching it originally and...
Planet of Budget
I was going through the special features on my Doctor Who: Planet of Evil DVD. They had a 25 minute documentary on the making of that story. Back then, Doctor Who was made on a notoriously cheap budget. The total budget for Planet of Evil was 3000 pounds for set design and 700 pounds for action props. In 2009 money, that probably wouldn’t cover the catering budget on a BBC production. But...
Remember, it's the middle of January...
So take your freakin’ Christmas decorations down! Thank you.
Stuck in neutral
I’ve been having trouble enjoying life lately. Between unemployment, a job hunt going nowhere, being broke, family problems, the cold, icy weather and a non-existent social and love life, I’ve been feeling pretty glum lately. I really need a change of scenery, but I can’t afford to go anywhere. I’ve been trying to think positive and be hopeful, but it’s been hard.
On my own again (temporarily)
My parents are in Michigan, picking up some stuff at my grandparents’ old house. Mercy is staying with Ed until they come back. So I’ve been left to watch the place while they’re away. So I’m pretty much living on my own for the first time in years. It’s actually kinda nice. I have a certain privacy and space that I haven’t had in awhile. It’s pretty nice...
Disagree to disagree
It seem impossible to have a civil disagreement on the internet. I understand that not everybody will agree with you on everything. However, when you share an opinion that somebody online disagrees with you on, they react as if you just called their mother a whorish c-word with facial hair. Of the top of my head, I can think of a rather nasty response I got to a fan of one of the bands I listed in...
Economic Enhancement
Okay, we need a bailout for this industry now!
Everything but the console
Over the past few days, I got in the mail my new recharge chord for my Xbox 360 controller, which broke last week. I also get a 120 gig hard drive. And my grandmother is getting me a game as a belated birthday present, which we’ll pick up tomorrow and will probably be Left 4 Dead. Now all I need is a working Xbox 360 console and I’ll be set!
Sock update
Mercy just took my other sock. Note to self: Don’t leave socks lying around where she can get them.
How much is that sock on the floor?
It seems that Mercy has adopted one of my socks. Her sock obsession began months ago when my mom traveled to Minnesota to help my grandparents move. Mercy took some of my mom’s socks during that time and started sleeping with them. I guess she figured if mommy wasn’t around, she might as well sleep with these things that smell like her. Even after mom came home, this turned into a...
And the Eleventh Doctor is...
Matt Smith!
I have to admit, I’ve never heard of this guy before. I guess that could be considered a blessing, since I’ll have no preconceived notions about what kind of Doctor he’ll be. Base on this photo, I have two reservations. 1) His costume is a little too similar to Christopher Ecleston’s. 2) He look a little too emo. Come to think of it, he looks a lot like that...
Livin' la Vida Oprah
Another example of taking your fandom too far.
Pretty good start to 2009.
I went with my brothers and sister-in-law to see the movie Slumdog Millionaire, which was really good. After the movie, we went for pizza at Modern, the best pizza place in the world! Overall, a pretty good start to the new year.
